Summer Trends 2021 I’ll Be Wearing
Summer is finally here & I’m so excited to share with y’all some summer trends I’m currently loving and will be wearing this season! And NO I am NOT going to say terrycloth and bright colors bc boring… there are so many other fun trends out there!! To preface, I do not proclaim to be any kind of fashion expert whatsoever. You can agree or disagree with me and we good - these are simply trends that I’m currently into and will be wearing. So let’s get into it hehehe
Just Truckin’
Trucker Hats / Baseball Caps
I am soooo obsessed with the trucker hat/baseball cap trend! For the longest time, I was never a ‘hat person’, especially baseball caps or dad hats. They always looked weird on me… I don’t know if it’s because I have a weird shaped head or what, but they never worked. Until now!! They still don’t fit me right, but idc because these hats are so cute and the perfect summer accessory. Not only do they complete a fit, but they are functional from protecting your cute face from the sun. Sounds like a win.
Crochet Craze
Ok so mentioning this might as well be as basic as mentioning terry cloth, but I am so obsessed with the crochet trend!! Some of y’all might have also seen that I am going to attempt to learn how to crochet this summer, so I’ll keep you posted on that. But crochet pieces are such a cute way to spice up your summer wardrobe! I’m so obsessed with crochet cardigans, skirts and dresses right now and hopefully I can learn how to make my very own pieces.
If you think the crochet craze is just a fleeting trend but you still want to participate, getting a crochet bag is a cute way to do so without splurging too much. There are so many amazing small businesses out there on Etsy, Instagram and Depop that you can support as well rather than us all wearing the same crochet dress from Beginning Boutique hahhahah.

Unique Cutouts
Summer is all about showing a little more skin when it’s warmer out, and this trend is the perfect way to do so.

This trend can easily be worn as something like a halter top, open back tops, and funky cuts in bottoms. Some fun examples are the cutouts in blazers or these pants from SUBSURFACE. An easy DIY at home way to participate in this trend is to take a pair of swimmies or a thong and wear it high up with a pair of pants (sweatpants or jeans) and boom cutout style.
Of course one of the most basic and overdone examples of the cutout trend this summer would be the Cult Gaia Serita dress that blew up. I feel like last year it was all about the House of Sunny dress and now our feeds are flooded with the Cult Gaia dupes that everyone and their mothers made. It’s definitely a classy look so don’t get me wrong, I get the appeal, I am just a lilll tired of seeing it hehe.
Also, a couple kinda subcategories from this trend would be fun flossing designs & sleeves!!
@SofiamCoehlo really put me on arm sleeves. Especially sleeves that coordinate to a top, I just think it’s so YUM for lack of better words. It can totally be upstyled or styled casually and so I love that versatility. It may not be practical in some warmer areas during the summer, but I am obsessed.
Midriff Flossing!! Not for your teeth, for your bod! This is always such a hot summer trend that stemmed from the [iconic?] 90s/00s visible thong or whale tail trend (photo examples included earlier ^). It’s had a classier evolution with thinner strap detailing on tops or skirts. Popular examples include the top from Orseund Iris or this skirt from Aya Muse.

Graphic Baby Tees!
I loveeee the baby tee trend! Crop tops are such a summer staple and having a cute baby tee is a necessity. I just love how simple baby tees are and how easy they are to style. You can one, find them relatively anywhere and two you can easily get a baby tee even by thrifting in the kids section or cutting up an old shirt. It’s def an easy trend to commit too and there are so many cute tops out there! I’ll definitely be wearing baseball and graphic baby tees this summer! Playsuits n Polos
One of my favorite summer trends are playsuits! Last year I was obsessedddd and all about the Aya Muse Playsuit. These pieces are so cute and functional. It can be styled on its own or as a swimsuit coverup - we stan versatility! I especially loved playsuits like the one from Aya Muse with collars. Collared polo tops are such a timeless detail that will always be in style. Nothing screams summer tennis country club like a white polo top.
Platform Sandals
Last summer it was all about the dad sandal or the mules, this year it’s all about the platform and I am so obsessed! I bought a pair of black 90sesque platform sandals and I love them. They make me feel like I should be in my own 90s/00s sitcom. I have been eyeing this neutral pair from one of my fave shoe brands and I am SO TEMPTED. Platform sandals are cute, give you height, and comfy! Such a win and a summer staple for sure.

Giddy for Gingham / Checkers
And a shoutout to a pattern I will be wearing this summer: gingham. Gingham is such a cute and girly pattern. It’s a great pattern and piece to wear between and during spring/summer. Similarly, checkers are super cute, I see those Beginning Boutique checkered pants all over my feed! I have a pair of green gingham pants from Princess Polly and I’m soooo excited to style them this summer. There’s also a super cute checkered set from Shop Cider!! [Top] [Bottoms]
Baggy Pants + Boxer Briefs
So we’ve known that it’s all about the baggy pants, but I am just so into them right now. Lovee a good baggy pair of denim, the whole big pants and tiny top is such a cute summer look. I’m totally on the hunt for a pair of cargo pants! My dream would be the black pocket pant from Orseund Iris, but she’s a little out of the budget and archived :(
I’m also obsessed with the look of wearing a boxer brief under a pair of baggy pants and folding them over. I saw a few girls do this with the Skims boxer briefs last summer and I had to try it myself. I love the folded over jeans look but I am not confident enough to have my stomach out, so layering it with the boxers is a happy medium that looks cute and keeps me a lil more comfortable.
Some honorable, but overdone and basic mentions include maxi dresses (House of Sunny), bralettes, matching sets (nobody does summer knits better than Jacquemus) and funky jewelry (Martha Calvo) & sunglasses (Lexxola)!! I’m also someone who’s not big on swimsuits, but I love swimmies from 437, Frankie’s Bikinis, and I would killllllllllll for things from Bamba Swim.
